Banam, a banana water brand co-founded by entrepreneur Paul Cadden, has launched in Ireland, rolling out through Tesco, BWG and Dunnes Stores this autumn.
Cadden is best known for bringing contemporary Thai food to Dublin two decades ago with his restaurant Saba, and Banam continues that Thai thread: it is made from Thai heirloom bananas using an enzyme-based process that releases the water naturally held in the fruit, with each 250ml can said to contain the water of two whole bananas.

The range launches in three flavours, Original, Strawberry and Blueberry, at 37 calories a can and with no caffeine, artificial colours or flavours, preservatives or added water. The drink naturally carries nutrients found in bananas, including magnesium, manganese and vitamins A and B6, plus electrolytes. The name fuses banana with naam, the Thai word for water.
Banana water has been gaining traction in the US on its electrolyte and vitamin profile; in May, Banagua raised $5.5m from Hingham Growth Partners to fund national expansion.
The brand is starting at home, with plans to grow Banam into an Irish-owned international player.
